One of the minorities I never thought about being in Australia are Romany people or gypsies as they are often referred to. Unfortunately it has taken this negative publicity for me to realise that there is a Roma community spread throughout Australia.

It would make a great feature article. I wish I had time to write it.

See here for more info about the community.

Cornelia Rau April 9, 2007

The federal government should be worried about reports that Cornelia Rau is suing after failing to reach a compensation agreement for her wrongful ten month incarceration in a Queensland prison and then an immigration detention centre. Worse still for the image of the government, the reason given for the lack of an agreement is that the lawyers are claiming that it is not the government’s fault because the detention centre is run by a private contractor.

This just doesn’t wash with the public. They are using the Anna Coren defence “They were working for us but we are not responsible”. The detention centres are not set up because the companies see it as a money making venture- they are a policy of this government and the buck stops with the Immigration Department.

If the government have any sense they will make this go away very quickly because it is just this sort of excuse making that voters hate. Just pay the poor woman what she deserves.

From news.com.au

“CAMERON Diaz says she became a big fan of British food while filming The Holiday in the UK. The American actress became hooked on scones – a bread and raisin cake eaten with cream and jam – after filming a scene where she gorges on them. “When the scones were all gone but there’s still cream and preserves left, I’d scoop that all up with the knife and make a knife scone! Then I’d eat it all,” she said. “There was a scene that got cut out of the film when I am in a cafe and there is this big thing of scones and clotted cream in front of me. We shot it for a week. I’d take the top off the cream ever time!” – Supplied”

News.com.au is the Murdoch online presence in Australia. I doubt there are many Australians who need to be told what a scone is. It is just slack to cut and paste an article and not sub it to make sure it is appropriate for the audience.
